MOCEANU GIVES ADVICE, TALKS ABOUT COMEBACK (PENSACOLA NEWS JOURNAL)
She gave advice and encouragement, but mostly, Dominique Moceanu gave her signature on all sorts of items.
Many of the autograph-seekers barely were taller than the table at which she sat, flashing the megawatt smile that made her a darling of the 1996 gold-medal U.S. Olympic women's gymnastics team. Only the girls' parents can remember her performances.
"I know, I know ... I'm getting old," the 24-year-old Moceanu said, laughing, as she warmly greeted tiny visitors Saturday at Gulf Breeze Gymnastics and Cheer.
Moceanu, who is making a competitive comeback, was a celebrity guest at a special Olympics-style youth meet at the facility, which opened a year ago.
"We're a new business, so we wanted to reward the kids for their hard work," said Susan Yonehiro, the facility's owner and a Gulf Breeze native. "So we decided to contact Dominique because everyone loves Dominique."
